A 22-year-old was waiting for his order inside the Post Road eatery just before 1:30 p.m. when his 21-year-old friend waiting in a car outside texted him to find out why it was taking so long, police said.

The 22-year-old texted back that the shop’s employees were being robbed at gunpoint, police said.

The friend believed him and quickly called 911 to report the crime.

Four units responded — only to find the text was a joke.

Officers lectured the young men on how the situation could have gone tragically awry, then sent them on their way.
